Say I write about a character, and that character is me. I get published, people read, and someone decided THEY are that character. Wait, YOU can’t be ME. That’s not cool.

Say I create a race. Someone comes along, reads and decides they are that race. That someone proceeds to correct ME on the race I created, it’s mores, natures, etc…

You can’t do that, I made it.

Hello, resident speciesfluid asshat. I’ve been fictionkin. I’ve been the species I’VE created. And guess what? Most of it does sort of sync up, even though I didn’t focus on them exactly. And when I’m fictionkin and not a species I’ve created, there are details I don’t even know about that end up being exact to that species (such as when I was in a mental shift and refused to eat most everything, and found out later that the species in question was strictly herbivorous).

And there’s ALWAYS going to be differences. There’s differences between fictives and their source material all the time!

The only people who DECIDE they are a race are people like me who have fluid inner forms/kintypes/images/what have you. I know an Alternian, okay? They didn’t DECIDE to be Alternian. They read Homestuck, they found out they were Alternian, and it just clicked with what they’d known their entire life before Homestuck even came around. Same with another Alternian I know, who is Karkat motherfucking Vantas. He didn’t wake up some day and go “hey, guess what? i’m bored, let’s be karkat”. No. That is never how it works, asides from the exception that I listed above.

I looked up the definitions, and you know what? I can get with otherkin. If you choose to believe that elves/vampires/unicorns once existed, then being a reincarnation of one is totally legit. I once had a a past life reading in which I was told that I was a fairy that accidentally burnt my home down and I hadn’t been reborn in centuries because of the shame of it. I take that with an open mind and a few grains of salt.

But to believe that you are a FICTIONAL RACE/CHARACTER… You people are FUCKING INSANE. You need HELP.

I’m open-minded to a lot of things, but idiocy and self-inflicted ignorance is not among them.
